Preparing For a Day of Rest As a Stay at Home Mom

Keeping the Sabbath day Holy isn’t as easy as it may sound for a stay at home mom.

I remember thinking, I’m going to do nothing all day and be able to rest? Okay! That’s easy! And it was, until I realized I still had to feed people and take care of them 😅 But trust me friends, organizing your prep day us KEY to any glimmer of a day of rest as a mama.

It takes a disciplined routine to make things flow for the Sabbath day - depending on how you choose to run your home.

“Work” for a stay at home mom counts as doing dishes, laundry, cleaning, cooking, etc.

I make it a goal to have all of the laundry done on Thursday, the last load of dishes going through the dishwasher Friday morning, a clean house Friday morning and easy to heat up meals prepped with the kitchen sink cleaned by Friday. That’s a lot harder to do than it may seem 😅

Having those things in order allows me a day to rest without feeling like my world is caving in. Wrapping up all of my “to do” list prior to Sabbath makes for a restful Sabbath.

Now keep in mind, I’m human and I don’t nail this goal every week. Life happens and we roll with it - but all in all, having these goals set allows me to have some sort of structure as I prepare for the Sabbath and frees me up to be more present with my family.

We are a year into honoring the Sabbath, and each week I’m learning new ways to prepare for our family’s day of rest.

When you’re starting out, give yourself grace. Don’t expect everything to go perfectly or throw in the towel because it’s challenging to not work on Sabbath (because it is SUPER challenging).

Do your best and continue to learn each week!
