Weekly Fruit Prep

Once per week we go to the grocery store to grab whatever essentials we need for the farm. Since we raise our own dairy and meat our grocery bill stays pretty low and is focused on fruit. Yes, we grow our own fruits and veggies, but they aren’t always in season and we haven’t hopped on the seasonal eating train yet 😉 maybe one day!

We, also, don’t eat a lot of veggies. Maybe once or twice per month we will throw some into the mix. We are a hardcore fruit family here!

I noticed a lot of fruit was going bad before we could get to it. And although we have chickens and cows that appreciate our neglect for our fruit in the fridge - I prefer we eat what we can first!

As a way to combat rotting fruit, I implemented weekly food prep and it’s been working like a charm!

Once we get home from the store, we spend a chunk of time cleaning and prepping all of our fruit for the week. A cantaloupe that isn’t cut will end up rotting on the counter… but one that is cut won’t last more than 2 days in our household!

I've also found that prepping fruit this way makes it so easy for on the go snacking and snacking throughout the day. The kids can help themselves to healthy options and feel empowered while doing so! It’s a win win!

If you don’t prep your fruit ahead of time for the week, this would be a great time saver for you to try out!
