Unschooling = Freedom

Back in August, I opened my phone to a flood of back to school posts, and they’re adorable!

If I’m being 100% honest though - I forgot that school had ever stopped.

Unschooling for Kindergarten this past year has been so freeing. No set curriculum, no set schedules, weekly rhythms filled with adventures around every corner… it’s been amazing!

The other night I was asked what Landon learned this past year and it took me a minute to process my thoughts because of all that we have done. He can count, add numbers, pray over anyone or anything, build Lego’s above his age bracket like a pro, milk a cow, write his name, propagate plants, run a profitable bunny business and balance his books (with help from dad), surf waves, speak respectfully to adults, knows gun safety rules, can walk you through a step by step on where babies come from, safely use a knife, skin & gut a chicken and rabbit, fold laundry, cook eggs & noodles, climb big walls, make up Christian songs and put on concerts…. And so much more.

I used to wonder if I was doing him a disservice by not sitting him down and pushing reading + writing - but now I know I made the right choice. He’s flourishing in this creative, stress free environment and it’s the coolest thing to experience!

We are building his character… reading and writing will come in its own time. Until then we will carry on adventuring through this incredible life we are creating together.
