The Legoland Experience
This past weekend our family went on a fun little weekend getaway to Legoland. If you’ve followed our family for any amount of time - you already know that leaving the farm isn’t as hard as people make it out to be. We always have someone on the farm when we leave whether that’s family or friends depending on our travel arrangements! The animals are well cared for and our property is well protected!
This trip was extra special because two of our closest friends joined us for the excitement - truth is, we got a killer deal on tickets - and you can too!
Legoland has special pricing for homeschoolers “grade” k-8th. Special pricing being $20 per kid and around $30 per adult when you have a group of 10 kiddos - aka get your homeschool friends together and take a trip! You can find details on how to set that up by clicking here:
They also will send you really fun homeschool activities to do before coming to the park or at the park to learn science lessons!
Once you book the park for an insane discount, then I encourage you to splurge on the Legoland Resort. The room has a fun scavenger hunt for the kids to go on that lead to them finding treasure - I’ll let you guess what kind of treasures that could be. Legos. The answer is legos.
SO - What did we enjoy at the resort you ask?
Putt putt, endless lego builds, character interactions, a master builder class, a pool with floating lego bricks, and so much more!
If you’re wanting to take the complimentary master builder class where your child will be guided step by step in creating a fun build, make sure you sign up for your time/date ahead of time. The spots are limited and the classes fill up quickly! You can book your spot here.
For dinner, we went to Shipwreck Restaurant (located conveniently inside the resort). We did get a reservation for dinner, and I’d encourage you to do the same - it will fill up quickly. Since everyone in our party had an allergy, we decided to make the entire table a Gluten Free table. Surprisingly, they had so many options to offer.
They do family style dinner where you can choose between two different platter options. We went with the Pirate Platter and they brought out a large salad, gluten free cornbread, more meat than any of us could eat and sides like mashed potatoes, gluten free mac and cheese, green beans, and baked beans. While we were waiting for dinner, the kids were able to play in a lego room that was attached to the restaurant and visible via our table. That was a huge plus for our very excited kiddos!
After we finished dinner, they brought out dessert! (It was included in the experience). Now I say all of this with a warning - the food is not cheap. Think theme park pricing. We paid almost $200 including tip for dinner when all was said and done (we did get the kids “special drinks” and Jason and I got a special drink as well - so that influenced some of the pricing.) Can you pack a dinner or choose another more budget friendly option? Absolutely - but we were going of the experience and it 100% did not disappoint. We did pack a to go box with the leftover meat and stored that in our cooler. This came in handy the next day - we used the leftovers as our lunch meats.
After dinner we decided to dive into the amenities - putt putt was fun! The kids played while the adults hung out. Once the game was over, we went inside and the kids built more legos. There are endless lego pits, containers, areas etc with all sorts of legos for kids to pick up at any time and build. They also have fun walls and areas for the kids to add legos to.
If you already have lego people at home, it’s a great idea to gather up some of the one’s that your kids would mind getting rid of. At the hotel (and the park) you can trade lego people with any employees. One of our friends brought extra people to trade and the kids and so much fun trading away and getting new lego friends to take home.
We ended our night with a Pajama Dance Party and the kids wiggled their way into bed shortly after because they were successfully worn out!
The next day we used our homeschool passes for a fun day at the park. I won’t bore you with everything we did, but I will share 10 of my pro tips:
-
It will save you so much headache. Yes, even with older kids. They will likely get tired. Also - you can store all of your lunch items, towels, snacks etc. on it.
-
We used a soft cooler to throw all of our lunch and snacks in. One thing to note here - no glass is allowed in the park past security - so choose appropriate Tupperware etx.
-
This saved us so many times! My favorite.
-
You can bring water bottles into the park. Filtered water or bust over here!
-
They have a covered bleachers area where you can sit and enjoy your lunch while you’re watching the show!
-
Bring a fanny pack so that you can keep your keys and phone safely on you on the rides - some roller coasters won’t allow you to wear it, but many other rides will. My favorite is this one.
-
When you go to the indoor build area, ask the employees for a set of wheels - they will give you a set to use so you can build a fun car to race down the ramp.
-
If you’re going to purchase legos, go to the big lego store at the end of the day. The park closes around 5, so get there around 4pm to miss the big rush. The reason I suggest doing this at the end of the day is because you don’t want to have a lego bag on your stroller just hanging out while you are leaving it unattended to go on rides - it could get taken.
-
If you have a child who has difficulty waiting in line for whatever reason, consider signing up for a hero pass - it’s similar to a fast pass and allows you to have shorter wait times: “LEGOLAND Florida Resort offers a Hero Pass for those who may have difficulty waiting in line. This pass allows the guest assigned the pass immediate boarding through the exit along with one helper; however the rest of the group is required to receive a reservation. Once a reservation time is set for an attraction, both the guest assigned the pass and the rest of the group may return together at the reserved time. This pass is valid for up to 6 people and can be picked up at Guest Services.”
-
Don’t go to the Pirate River Quest ride after one of the water shows lets out - instead, go while the show is happening and your wait time will likely be decreased! Also - it’s a long ride, 30 minutes or more, so time it appropriately.
Well, there you have it, friends! Enjoy your homeschool day at Legoland!
