12 Ways to Homestead Where You’re At!

You don’t have to have an abundance of land or resources to begin homesteading.

If you’re not where you “think you should be” - reassess what you do have instead of what you don’t.

Homesteading is all about creatively solving problems to get one step closer to self sufficiency.

Don’t have a lot of a space? Find someone who does or get creative with the space you do have!

Knowledge weighs nothing and takes up 0 square feet. Invest in that.

Here are 12 ways that you can homestead wherever you are - regardless of land size!

  • If you have any space in your yard - full it with a coop! The farm to table experience only requires a couple square feet per bird 😉 if that’s not an option - find someone who is raising chickens OR find a friend with more land and offer to buy the chickens/coop and share eggs. Where there is a will, there is a way.

  • Depending on where you live, you may need to build community and learn the legal work-arounds 😉

  • Being able to run chickens behind cows and cut back on parasites is a beautiful thing! Permaculture allows you to work with the Earth and God’s design instead of against it. There are many resources out there. A good first step: read a blog or buy a book!

  • The sun’s energy is photosynthesized into the grass that the cows then eat and turn into milk and meat for us to consume 🤯 it’s an incredible process that was so intentionally designed. Find ways to honor that on your homestead or support it on someone else’s!

  • Baking from scratch may seem intimidating if you’ve never done it before but there are TONs of recipes and how to’s online now - my coming soon insiders group included-. Make sure you’re tuning into how we navigate delicious foods without the added garbage!

  • Organizing your time to prepare and cook meals, stay on top of dishes, handle the laundry situation, tidy the house, create a rhythm for your family, host other families, activities and schooling for your children - that all takes time and intentionality. Lean into it. They all flow together so naturally when you do!

  • They can handle more than you think. Their brains are sponges and they’re hungry to learn. Teach them to respect the dangerous parts and give them room to safely navigate around them. They want to do what you’re doing 😉

  • In our home, firearm safety starts young - just like knife safety does 😉 there are ways to introduce firearms and instill a healthy level of understanding within children. If you’d like more resources check out my self defense highlight from a past collective!

  • Vertical gardens fit just about anywhere if space is an issue- get creative. You can also have some plants inside!! The sky's the limit.

  • You can raise backyard chickens, quad, and rabbits on a smaller scale or support a local farmer who is raising meat.

  • This is as simple as grabbing a book from the library or downloading an app and heading outside to explore! I have a highlight on foraging 101 on Instagram that will walk you through some of my favorite ways to get started!

  • Invest in loving on people intentionally and surround yourself with people who lift you up and encourage you! If you’re interested in building community- check out my course in the shop!
