Have you ever seen white stripes on chicken breasts?
If you’re sourcing your meat from the grocery store, the odds of seeing striated white patterns in your meat are pretty darn high.
💡But what do the white lines mean?!
The white lines are a mixture of fat deposits as well as hardened muscle in the birds.
💡What does that mean for the consumer?
Eating this meat won’t kill you on the spot 😉 but, the hardening of the muscle and additional fat deposits lead to tougher, less tender meat and less tasty meat. Additionally - you will notice meat with these white stripes doesn't absorb marinade as well as healthier meat does.
I can tell you first hand, your meat does not, and should not look like that 🥴🥴
The conditions which birds are raised in directly affect the amount of stress hormones that are released into the meat as well. This doesn’t even touch on whatever is injected or fed to the birds during their lifespan and how that affects the meat quality/consumer health.
My point here - source your meat from a farmer you trust!
Stop normalizing chicken meat with white stripes in it - it’s not the norm 😉
